These five women blend as Voce (pronounced vō´chā, from the Italian word for “voice”). The group has been working and performing together since 1999. The original notion of Voce was to sing doo-wop harmony - a fabulous art form that is still strongly represented in the group's repertoire - but soon after the women began singing together, they found that doo-wop was only the beginning. They now perform mostly a cappella songs from an eclectic repertoire, from Renaissance to Hip Hop and everything in between. In addition to singing together, the members of Voce have active careers as teachers, music therapists, writers, and artists. All of the women live and work in Ulster County, NY. Voce has performed in a number of Hudson Valley venues, including the Rosendale Café, the Harvest Home Music Fair at Belleayre Mountain, SUNY New Paltz, The Festival of the Arts at Mohonk Mountain House, and The Clearwater Pumpkin Festival in Beacon, NY, where Pete Seeger accompanied them on a song he composed for women's voices. Voce has headlined several benefits for area arts and civic organizations, devised and implemented various programs for arts education in the schools, and customized entertainment programs for private events.
